v.z.w. TIBETAANSE-VLAAMSE VRIENDENKRING (ngo “Tibetan Flemish Circle of Friends” – Belgium)

WATERFILTER PROJECT IN MAINPAT – Summer 2012 BACKGROUND OF OUR PROJECTS: In 2009, Dennis Barbion and his wife Marijke Reynaert from Belgium started a shoe project for the Tibetan refugees in Dharamsala on their own initiative. That year they gave a new pair of shoes to 80 Tibetans. In 2010, this project was continued as an independent part of the Belgian ngo “Tibetaanse-Vlaamse Vriendenkring” (Tibetan Flemish Circle of Friends).  With the fundraising, the Belgian couple was able to give a new pair of good quality shoes to 426 Tibetan refugees! During their stay in Dharamsala in April 2011, Dennis and Marijke got quite some ideas and suggestions for new projects for the Tibetans at other places in India, in the Tibetan settlements. After the trip to India in Spring 2011, the Belgian couple set up a … Read entire article »

Tibet protest at “Tibet Square” in Woluwe-Saint-Pierre (Brussels) on the Chinese New Year.

The Regional Tibetan Youth Congress Belgium (RTYC Belgium) had planned a peaceful Tibet demonstration in front of the Chinese embassy in Brussels on Saturday 21st January 2012, for the ongoing atrocities in Tibet, the recent self immolations and the brutal crack down by the Chinese, and shooting of innocent kids, women and monks. The reason to demonstrate that day was of course the upcoming Chinese New Year and its celebrations. Although the police gave a positive recommendation to the Mayor of Woluwe-Saint-Pierre who is also the head of the police, the permission to demonstrate was denied, as there was a celebration of the Chinese New Year with diplomats in the Chinese embassy that day. The area around the Chinese embassy in Brussels was totally closed and a lot of policemen kept an … Read entire article »

Touch A Tear

Touch a tear that trickles with a lonely fingertip Taste the salt upon your tongue with parted honey lip Walk a dusty trail my love as thought returns to me If you should tire a spring awaits beneath the banyan tree You’ll hear the music of my voice whisper in its leaves As sacred prayers we two had shared float upon the breeze The rhythm of the drums that beat within our dance of love Reverberates within your head and all you’re thinking of Is holding me within your arms so tight no room for air No space could get between us two as we are standing there As rains fall down to beat the ground and make the lily bright Heaven heard your solemn vow and brought your wish tonight Kay Salady @ Winslow, Arizona USA Kay Salady is a writer based … Read entire article »

A Farmer’s Tale

As I sit and watch the street, I am engulfed by a heaviness. It is so thick and it penetrates my limbs. My eyes, they watch, listlessly. They watch the people hurrying by, hurrying to which end I wonder. I know they are hurrying to get to somewhere. To work perhaps, some hurrying home, some just, hurrying. They walk over the filth, breathe the filth, touch it and taste it as well. Yet they don’t feel it? Or maybe they do. But I see it. I can feel it with my senses, it has entered me now… it has claimed my mind? Perhaps not yet.I look up at the grey skies and I know, they are grey not from rain. The smoke from my beedi rises up and mingles into … Read entire article »

Editorial-The Way Things Happen

The Arachneed began as a project to publish and be recognized. As time passed , as hurdles, obstacles and obstructions came by, The Arachneed, every single time evolved into something new, vibrant and most importantly- humble. What The Arachneed or as being the Editor of the publication has taught me is humility and patience. There have been times when the content has not been delivered on schedule or words being too less or images being too large or a slack on my part to not update or upload on time. But still things don’t and they did not ‘fall apart’ and well, they just became better to live onto the idea that to opine is not a crime and that opinions matter.  The way the events unfolded in Burma, with Democratic rejuvenation..we … Read entire article »

A Tibetan’s plight..Yearning to go home..!

The place that I belong to… This is not a song which I m writing about ..It is about the life of an ordinary Tibetan…. Our people in our country have a life of suffering without any human rights…. But what about Tibetans in exile…Do they live happily? The question raised is about us…Tibetans like us who are born and brought  up in some other country .Since the day we learned how to listen, we hear that our country is not free…We participate in the protest because our elders asked us to do so…But when we reach  the age when we can understand things..we hear about our country ,nothing good but people dying and crying  for Freedom…   Being a Tibetan makes me feel proud because I know I am a Tibetan and Tibetans are compassionate. They … Read entire article »

USA to Remain a Lonely Superpower for Many Years to Come

In March 2011, Mr. Katsunobu Sakurai, the mayor of Minamisoma in Japan was widely quoted by numerous international media agencies as saying ‘they’re leaving us to die’. This was in reaction to the failure of the Japanese Government to swiftly and adequately respond and assist millions of its citizens affected by the strongest earthquake ever to hit the island State. The 9.0 magnitude earthquake triggered tsunami waves of up to 10 meters high (33ft) and inflicted extensive and devastating damage to Japan’s infrastructure, including airports, roads, ports, dams, and nuclear facilities and killed over 16,447 people, more than  4,787 are still missing; over 5,888 were injured. In the Footsteps of a Giant: Ramanujan

Countless number of people enter this world ,not serving any real purpose, and sadly, making no relative contribution to society. But, every now-and-then a person comes along and leaves his mark forever. That individual is ‘Ramanujan’, the mathematician, and a ‘Demigod”. Srinivasa Ramanujan was born on 22nd December 1887, in Erode, Madras Presidency. By the age of 12 he had completely mastered ‘Trigonometry’, even making up his own ‘Theorems’ .He was completely ‘Self Taught’. It is widely believed that his ‘Brahmin’ roots, and his adherence to its strict traditions, and studying of the ‘Puranas’, made him what he was; his mother believed that Ramanujan was ‘Blessed’ by the Gods. Like all ‘Geniuses’, he excelled only in mathematics, failing all his other exams, not showing any particular interest in them. During his short life, Ramanujan contributed immensely … Read entire article »

GURU

Many people are searching for significance.  They do not quite understand life’s meaning or their purpose for being here.  Quite frequently, in their search, they feel a sense of loss and emptiness.  In order to fill this void, they look outside themselves for ways to satisfy their inner hunger. Humankind has long suffered with illness as a result from gluttony.   This gluttony, or greed, is a direct result from their need to fill themselves with things ranging from food, drugs, alcohol, intimacy, possessions, gambling, perfectionism, exercise, religion, risky behavior, etc. The end consequence of creating such an imbalance in their lives has created a society of very unhappy people – people who are searching for something beyond themselves, something beyond all the things they have attempted to fill themselves with that did not … Read entire article »
