On 5th January 2013 the first ever class held in Leuven by Tibetan Cultural Center in Belgium.

The Tibetan Cultural Center in Belgium organises Tibetan classes for Tibetan children in Brussels, Antwerpen, Oostende and Leuven.

Full of excitement and enthusiasm, Tibetan children in Leuven were very eagerly waiting for their first Tibetan class.  We were very happy to see that those parents and children fully support us. Parents confirmed that they are committed to send their children regularly to the Tibetan class.

To begin with, the president of the Tibetan Cultural Center (Lobsang Wangdue) introduced TCC’s activities and more precisely the Tibetan class for children in Belgium.  Next, Tamdin Tseten, the joint secretary, gave a presentation about TCC in general, and this was followed by a questions and answers session.

Right from the beginning of TCC’s activities, the association wanted to focus on Tibetan children who were born here in Belgium. They learn Dutch or French at school and speak this language when they play with other children. While they do speak Tibetan at home, the conversations they have with their parents are very limited. Thus they understand when their parents talk to them in Tibetan but reply in another language.

The parents are concerned about this and this is why TCC knows it is important to hold these classes at the weekend, to give them the opportunity to really learn their language and culture.

Dawa la is the teacher for this class in Leuven. Sonam Tso, who helped to find the classroom, will be the co-ordinator for this class.

Address: De Romaanse Poort, Brusselsestraat 63, 3000 Leuven.

Time: 10 am to 1 pm every Saturday.
