Clearing Negative Energy Part 2

(This is the second of the two part articles. The first is here)

I hadn’t really planned on writing a part two to this article, but so many people ask me about self-protection that I thought I might add another post on the topic.

Self-protection isn’t hard, but I find a lot of people, particularly women are reticent to invoke self-protection.  Many people feel that they are in some way rejecting others or maybe disrespecting them in some way or that there is something wrong in distancing themselves from others.  I don’t believe this to be true at all.

Not everyone’s energy rubs us the right way, for a variety of reasons.  Some people’s energy is too scattered or hectic or overpowering for some reason that they make us uncomfortable.  Self-protection from these individuals is not tantamount to saying this person is bad or evil–just incompatible.  Then there are folks who are energy vampires.  Whatever energy you have, be it your personal power, Reiki or other healing energy, or whatever, they need it and they take it, most of the time without realizing it.  You only know you feel drained after being around them.

That is not to say that there aren’t some people whose negative energy radiates clearly from them, too.  This may be someone you need to distance yourself not only in a psychic way, but a physical way as well.  But thankfully most of us don’t run into them too often.

Protecting yourself is a simple matter of intention and invocation.  Each day before I

leave the house I imagine myself in a cocoon of white light, kind of a puffy illuminated cloud.  I ask my guides and dieties for healing, protection and guidance in the service of others.  I do the same for my kids.  If I feel my aura bumping into someone else’s aura and we don’t mesh, I borrow a phrase from Star Trek and say (silently or otherwise) “Shield’s Up.”  This puts me and my psychic defense system on the alert.

With folks who are energy vampires, I find it easier to set the intention of allowing my Reiki to flow to them until they have the energy they need rather than try to horde it.  I used to live above a lady who needed Reiki like flowers need sunshine.  A couple of nights a week I would lay in bed and watch TV or read with the intent of letting my Reiki flow to her as long as needed. Not surprisingly, we started out not on the best of terms but became much friendlier.

Finally, when giving healing sessions, it’s important to clear that negative energy away.  I like the technique of kenyoku or dry bathing.  Here’s an easy technique:

Place your right hand on your left shoulder and brush it down across your body diagonally toward your right hip. Shake your right hand as if to dislodge any negative energy you have just swept off your body.  Repeat the process with your left arm sweeping diagonally from your right shoulder to your left hip, etc.  With your right hand, brush down your arm until past your fingertips.  Shake any energy from your right hand.  Repeat with the left hand.  With your right hand, brush from your left wrist until past your fingertips.  Shake any energy from your right hand.  Repeat on the left side.  With both hands, brush down the front of your body and shake out both hands.  You can repeat the process one or more times if desired.  I usually smudge a bit after a treatment.
